How can I get my mother to accept her limitations?
By marty582 on September 28, 2012 - 01:00 PM

My mother lives with me and for the most part, she can still take care of herself. But, she has a difficult time with the steps. I usually help her up and down the stairs as needed. But, I am not always home to her, yet she will still do it on her own. I worry that she is going to get hurt unnecessarily. How can I convince her to stop climbing steps on her own?

  • This is a tough situation, because it sounds like she’s not trying to hurt herself, but she truly wants to maintain her independence. Maybe you could have a stair lift installed. This way, she can do things on her own and you don’t have to worry that she will fall. By Jennifer Caul on February 14, 2013 - 01:36 PM Reply | Report Comment
