How can I convince my father to accept care from his visiting nurses?
By MJones on September 28, 2012 - 12:26 PM

My father suffered a stroke and is confined to a bed at home. He can no longer speak, but he can understand us and nod yes and no to communicate. He has visiting nurses that come to care for him daily, but he will only accept care from me or another family member. He is embarrassed to be bathed, etc. by them. We need the help from the nurses because we can't always do it. How can I help him to be okay with having the nurses care for him?

  • This is probably obvious, but have you tried explaining to him that you need the help. It might be a difficult conversation, but you may be able to make him more open to it if he knows it will be helping you. Also, because he can answer yes and no, maybe you could brainstorm some solutions with him until he agrees on one. By Jennifer Caul on February 14, 2013 - 01:33 PM Reply | Report Comment
