Free Resources for Financial Planning

by Chris Cooper, Financial Planning Expert
November 12, 2014

Question: Are there are any free resources to help with financial planning?

Answer: The world wide web has a lot of free resources on financial planning, and that’s the problem. There are too many free resources with a hidden agenda to sell you what they manufacture or distribute. Any free information from an insurance company or specialty annuity company is so biased that it is not useful. Also, if you fill in your name and phone number on these websites, you will get phone calls from them for the rest of your natural life (Why you may ask?  Because the annuities they are selling pay huge commissions up to 15% of what you invest that it makes it worth the salesperson’s time to keep calling you until you give in!)

Go to the Financial Planning Association at for generic, non-product oriented information.  Also, the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors, and the National Guardianship Association at  for additional information and referrals to independent, objective advisors. For legal advice, for the National Academy of ElderLaw Attorneys.
