What are Sealants?

by Dr. Joshua Davidson, Senior Dental Care Expert
December 06, 2018

Question: What are sealants?

Answer: Sealants are a plastic coating that helps seal the grooves of teeth and prevent bacteria from settling in those grooves/depressions. Sealants are predominantly used for newly erupted permanent teeth in children. A real life analogy would be coating the grout lines around tile with a waterproof sealer.

Sealants are inexpensive and effective for preventing decay.
