Should I Hire an Architect and a Home Remodeler?

by Mike Dodd, Home Remodeling Expert
February 10, 2017

Question: Do I need to hire an architect if I already have a home remodeling team in place?

Answer: That depends on the competency level of the home remodeling team and how much confidence you have in their design expertise.  An architect is not only an expert at design, but understands how mechanical systems integrate with one another, building code compliance and how to incorporate a client’s wishes seamlessly into the overall project.  Understanding how an individual or a family lives in their home and what the home must deliver in order to be optimally functional requires a critical analysis that architects are typically very good at.  On the other hand, many remodeling professionals possess many of the same qualities.  In fact, if your remodeling team isn’t asking lifestyle and intended use kinds of questions about your project, you may very well have the wrong guy/gal.  We have been a design/remodel organization for the majority of our existence and it motivates us to be challenged by a client who is looking for more than just experience.  Bringing our creative expertise to the table allows us to shine.
