Question: What are the benefits of cardiac rehab?

Answer: There are many evidence-based benefits to cardiac rehabilitation. These include cardiovascular benefits such as reduced cardiovascular mortality, improved smoking cessation, improvement in risk factors (like cholesterol and blood pressure), and reduced hospital admissions. Additional benefits also include improved quality of life, reduced depression/anxiety, improved work capacity, and increased health-related knowledge.

Dr. Rajesh Vedanthan is Associate Professor in Medicine (Cardiology) at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. His area of research interest is global cardiology, global health delivery, capacity-building, and the intersection of health and development. He is also Associate Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation at Mount Sinai.
