Is Appointing a Geriatrician Cost-Effective?

by Dr. Theresa Redling, Geriatric Care Management Expert
October 02, 2015

Question: Can appointing a geriatrician help in saving money in some way when it comes to long term care?

Answer: The focus of Geriatric Medicine is to assist with keeping an elder physically and functionally and cognitively independent as well as focusing on quality of life. That being said, engaging the assistance of a board certified, fellowship-trained Geriatrician may save the  patient and care givers money by assisting with keeping the patient more independent for longer without requiring additional outside care needs.

Dr Theresa Redling is board certified in Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, Hospice and Palliative Care. She is Medical Director, Geriatric Health and Disease Management at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. She has her own private practice specializing in senior care with a special emphasis on dementia and successful aging.
