Medicare Turns 50!

Centers of Medicare & Medicaid Services that offers access to health insurance options is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its Medicare program. Medicare is the national insurance program providing benefits for all Social Security recipients who are either over 65 years of age or permanently disabled. It has been a model for all health insurance programs. Today, there are 54 million people enrolled in Medicare.

For its 50th anniversary, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) is seeking success stories about Medicare and how it has benefited beneficiaries. Stories could be general in nature or about a specific experience about those who’ve either just enrolled in Medicare or have been a beneficiary for a long time. Those sending stories will need to sign a release form (Form CMS-20006).
