answering your call . . . touching your heart
You swing your feet over the side of the bed and hit theground running every day. Your "to-do" list is a mile long and therearen't enough hours to fit all of it in. You want to be there for your family, your friends, your co-workers, your neighbors...even the stray dog roaming downthe street. But you are not made of elastic -- you can only stretch so far andthere are only so many directions you can be pulled in at once before you break. What can you do? Some days, when you look around, you just can't figure out whoor what to focus on first. The answer is simple. Focus on what's INSIDE youfirst, not what is outside. You have to start the day taking care of yourselfand
thenyou can reach out to care for others.
The next time you get ready to hop out of bed with thealarm...STOP...and make
thesethe first 3 steps you take each day:
1.B R E A TH E...slowly and deeply. Replenish your internal oxygen tank and you'll be bright-eyedand ready to start your day. Use those quiet moments to pray or meditate andcalm your busy mind.
2.S T R E TC H...in a good way (not in too many directions at once). Allow your bodyto slowly awaken and not be jolted into action.
3.F O C U S...onwhat you want to accomplish for the day. Jot down a quick list or simply wrapyour mind around what you want to do with this new day before you.
Our days are full of movement and usually at a very fastpace. Taking a moment to pause at the start of your day can create a balancethat lasts the whole day. It helps you stay centered and focused on what youneed to take your next step and the next one after that. Try this next week tostart each day with baby steps and you might be surprised what ground you cancover when you take care of yourself first!
